We are looking for a Support Specialist to join our team. Under the general direction of the Infrastructure Lead, you will be responsible for Network Administration duties related to the support of the Manitoba Hydro corporate network. This includes evaluating new networking technologies and assessing the impact on the corporate network of implementing these technologies. You will also be responsible for normal day-to-day administration tasks, including installation and maintenance of switching infrastructure, firewalls, network load balancers, and wireless technologies. Duties also include participation in project work, as well as providing technical support to internal Manitoba Hydro customers and end-user support.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical designs for network connectivity to Manitoba Hydro endpoints, data centers, on-premises, and in the cloud.
- Act as the SME for networking on large enterprise projects.
- Evaluate, design, implement, and maintain emerging networking technologies, such as SD WAN, ExpressRoute, and Azure cloud networking.
- Design, implement, and maintain system health monitoring technologies.
- Design, implement, and maintain Cisco wireless infrastructure.
- Install and troubleshoot Cisco switching, routing, and wireless technologies.
- Plan and execute hardware and software upgrades to ensure technical currency.
- Work with end-users to diagnose remote connectivity issues.
- Maintain accurate inventory of networking equipment and software.
- Participate in the procurement of hardware/software.
- Identify, monitor, and maintain the security of the network.
- Perform and analyze network packet captures.
- Work with end-users and other technical groups to resolve system problems when necessary.
- Mentor and assist junior staff members.
- Keep abreast and assess new trends in the IT industry.
- Work overtime as directed and participate in an on-call rotation on a 24/7 basis.
- Maintain a high level of communication with other technical groups in the enterprise.
Qualifications:
- A four-year degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from a university of recognized standing, plus a minimum of five years of related IT support experience, of which at least two years must be supporting Cisco networking products.
OR
- A two-year diploma in Computer Programming Technology from an institute of recognized standing, plus a minimum of seven years of related IT support experience, of which at least two years must be supporting Cisco networking products.
- Demonstrated ability in the implementation, maintenance, problem detection, and resolution in the following areas:
- Networking hardware, including access, distribution, and core switch technologies
- Firewalls
- Wireless technologies
- Azure/AWS Cloud Networking
- VPN Configuration
- Performance monitoring
- Experience with data centre infrastructure (cooling, racking, UPS)
- Capable of performance analysis at the network level.
- Familiar with Windows, Linux, and Solaris operating systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with the primary focus being customer service.
- Demonstrated commitment to keep up to date with current technology.
- Prepared to come in to work at any time during a 24-hour period to ensure system reliability.
- Prepared to be on-call on a rotational basis.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.
- Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Training is required and must be completed prior to transfer date and renewed annually.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $41.98-$57.92 Hourly, $80,437.76-$110,992.96 Annually.
